Fischer and Guyaux Take Their 6th West Penn Championship

The number one and two seeds faced off for the 2012 West Penn title with Kelly Fischer and Jessica Guyaux taking home their 6th West Penn championship defeating Janet Mazzola of Cleveland and Ann Turner of Cincinnati. Guyaux’s blistering forehand helped propel them to the two set victory over their Region 4 President’s Cup teammates. The final was a repeat of the 2010 West Penn. Suzanne Lanthier of Toronto partnered with Pittsburgher Lynn Thompson to take third place over Dionne Bothner and Sandra Odenbach of Rochester who earlier this month won the Cleveland Masters tournament.
Sixty four teams competed in the tournament which was held at clubs in the Fox Chapel area. Play commenced on Thursday at 8am and the fun continued at the party at the Fox Chapel Racquet Club in the evening. Thanks go to Nora Anderson and her wonderful team of volunteers for a great tournament.
