Short Hills Invitational PCQ/NRT Is Long on Talent

In its 61^st year, it is no surprise that the draw was deep and long at the Short Hills Invitational, where play took place at 11 different clubs in the area. This is a major stop on the APTA National Ranking Tournament schedule and it attracts top platform tennis talent.

Women’s Highlights

Unseeded finalists Lauren Cash and Maria Manley upset third-seed Kerri Delmonico and Cindy Prendergast in the quarterfinals and then defeated perennial contenders Bobo Delaney and Tonia Mangan in the semifinals. Delaney and Mangan may have been somewhat battle-weary after surviving a four-hour match in the quarterfinals against Liz Jaffe and Lisa Rudloff. Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay defeated Sue Tarzian and Kerri Flynn in the other semifinals.

Men’s Highlights

The top two seeds survived to meet in the finals, which had past National Champions on both sides of the net. The team that stole all the G’s, Marco Grangeiro and Guga Goncalves, also stole into the semifinals.
