2011 St. Louis Platform Tennis Invitational

2011 St. Louis Invitational WinnersPaddle players are nuts, but you already knew that. In a little bit of preaching to the choir, it has been a difficult winter. Yes, I know that the northeast has been absolutely pounded, but you should be prepared. St. Louis is not. We had enough of a storm on the Tuesday leading into the tournament to cause concern. An additional snow on the first morning of the tournament presented more problems. However, the tournament committee pulled out all stops to keep the courts clean and the tournament on time.

2010 Hinsdale Men's ChallengeThe Hinsdale Men's Challenge was played on the weekend of December 11-12. To be more specific, most of it was played the weekend of December 11-12. Several of the late round matches were left unfinished at the end of the weekend, to be played at later dates. As of now, everything has been wrapped up except the main draw final. The final, pitting Drew Broderick & Chris Gambino against Mike Marino and Dane Schmigdall, will take place on Friday, January 14th in Cincinnati. The action may not be complete, but the pictures are great!

2010 Chicago Charities WinnersThe 2010 Chicago Platform Tennis Charities Tournament was a mixed bag this year in the best sort of way. It was a combination of new teams, experienced teams, veterans, younger players, new champs and repeaters. We had the continuation of tradition with Howard Sipe as umpire for the Men's Open final, and the dawning of a new era with the debut of a live, on-line, interactive scoring system. All this over three days of beautiful fall weather.

2010 Milwaukee Women's Open WinnersChicagoland starts its tournament season by joining with Wisconsin players in Milwaukee. A short drive up the tollway, the Milwaukee Open is a perennial favorite for ranking points seekers and tournament junkies alike. This year was no exception.

On Friday it was the women's turn and at the end of the day it was Christine Schwartz and Chris Sheldon who won the title, defeating Sally Cottingham and Liz Hayward. (Cottingham & Sheldon won the tournament together in 2007). Saturday it was the Men's turn. In a complete 16 daw, 2009 champs Marty Engel and Wade Margin reprevailed over Chris Gambino and Jim Kozak, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to take the title.

Lake Bluff Hosts APTA Clinic & Exhibition

Lake Bluff Park District Platform Tennis CourtsPaddlers from around the area came out to Lake Bluff for paddle at its finest. With the help of PPTA Professionals Jason Love, Brad Smith, and Dave Bukowski the crowd received 2 hrs of a fun and educating paddle drills. After the drills the pro's showed off their skills in a crowd pleasing exhibition. Finishing the night was Lake Bluff putting out a top notch feast of food for the crowd.
