Chicago Welcomes the 2011 APTA Nationals
Chicago Platform Tennis Charities
Welcomes the
2011 APTA Men’s & Women’s National Championships
The Chicago area has been the host city of many national events and once again is thrilled to handle the host duties for the 2011 APTA Men’s and Women’s National Championships. The Glen View Club, as it did in 2006, will be the host club for more than 350 athletes during the March 10th thru the 13th event.
Organized platform tennis in Chicago began in 1972 under the leadership and support of Dick Hornigold, Dick Squires, Harry Brown and Jack & Sue Watson. The initial men’s league had 6 participating north shore clubs with an initial women’s league called the “Women’s Non-Competitive Paddle Tennis League”.
Thirty-eight years later, our area has more than 400 paddle teams, with over 4,000 players. More than 20 men’s, women’s, mixed and junior tournaments are held in the Chicago area every year. Thanks to the leadership of recent 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Alan Graham as well as the very active Men’s and Women’s Boards (not to mention the countless volunteers), the Chicago Platform Tennis Charities (CPTC) organization continues to support and expand the sport of platform tennis with great enthusiasm and success. Additionally, the CPTC continues its important tradition of giving back to the community and has raised over $100,000 to support local charities.
As we prepare for this year’s Nationals we are excited to offer sponsorship and donation opportunities. For more information on the tournament and how to become a part as a sponsor or volunteer please contact Tournament Chair John Noble or Fundraising Chair John Skalla. Co-Chairs of the event are Shannon Vinson & Matt Garavaglia.
