Ron Erskine and Mike Gillespie Defend Their APTA Men’s 50+ National Championship title

Ron Erskine and Mike Gillespie clearly had their hands full in their attempt to defend their APTA Men’s 50+ Nationals title. Ed Gartner’s and John Shehadi’s steady back court play and strong volleying made it difficult for Erskine and Gillespie to force errors. In a see-saw match, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, there were many memorable points and shots. Gartner made some unbelievable back court gets and Erskine’s blitz was great fun to watch.

Played at the historic New York Athletic Club the Men’s 50+, 60+, and 70+ Nationals all had a slightly larger draw than in past years. Thanks goes to Chris Tully, Marco Grangeiro, Bill Tully and Brian Woods for their all their hard work. The weather cooperated for the most part with only sun and some wind to complicate matters.
