January 23, 2016
Scarsdale, NY
The hallowed grounds of Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsdale, New York, was home to the APTA Women’s 50+ Nationals on January 22, 2016. Over 20 teams vied for the honors. The final was hotly contested but Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay, who have won two Grand Prix Series championships this year, came out on top. After dropping the first set to Liz Jaffe and Sue Tarzian, Dardis and Shay promptly picked up the pace and took the next two sets. The final score was 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
The Colorado faction of Kathleen Parker and Anne Lehigh also shifted the momentum and won the Quarter Reprieve over Jersey gals Darlene McGlone and Chris McGrath, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.
In the Consolation, Greenwich’s Cecilia Bowers and White Plains’ Jane Foster prevailed over Long Island’s Marie Adams and Buttons O’Donnell, 6-2, 6-3.
Wilton’s Lisa Furnivall and Leslie Gambee captured the Consolation Reprieve from Rhode Island’s Amy Chafee and Deb Schmutzler, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Congratulations to all the players. A great big thank you to Tournament Chair Susan Schwab, Gary Squires, Kevin King, Jody Hirson, and all of the volunteers who offer time and services to this fun, important event.
