On what was one of the nicest days weather-wise we've had all winter long, the CT Shoreline Men's 95+ were played last Saturday, February 1st, at the Essex Paddle Tennis Club.
With the temperature near 50 degrees, a full field of 24 teams battled over the course of the day for the crown. The two-time defending champions, Marc Porter and Peter Harvey, chose to head out west for platform tennis and skiing, so the main draw was open for the taking.
In the end, the seeds held true as the first-seeded duo from Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Naren Dhamodharan and Hans Doup, defeated the local boys from Essex, Geoff Cartier and Steve Griggs, 6-3, 6-3, in the final.
In the Quarter Final Reprieve the Essex team prevailed, as John Paternoster and Brent Dickman beat Bostonians Rob Pease and Mark Leuders, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
The Reprieve was taken by another Longmeadow squad of Rob Durfee and Jason Smith over Robert Caserta and Roddy Diotalevi, 6-2, 6-4.
In an all EPTC final, the team of TJ Riggio and Skip Young beat locals John Chatillon and David Nelson, 6-2 6-0, to win the Consolation.
Finally, the Last Chance bracket was won by the team of Gary Ulrich and Doug Jangraw over locals Rudy Meredith and Harry Jewett (NSR)
I want to thanks Old Lyme Country Club and Guilford Racquet and Swim for the use of their courts and Oliver's Taverne for another great lunch.
Look forward to seeing you all again next year!
