Jade Curtis and Viktoria Stoklasova Cruise Through Connecticut Classic

West Hartford, CT
Crazy shifts in weather characterized Sauturday’s Connecticut Classic. There was snow at one point, rain at another, high winds all of a sudden and then a sunny balmy break, and great competition through it all! The veterans in the draw, like Bobo Delaney and Tonia Mangan, were ready for all conditions, while some of the players newer to the game hadn’t thought of bringing rain gear when no rain was forecasted. As Tournament Director Courtia Worth commented, “Stick around ladies! Play this sport long enough and you’ll come prepared for anything.” Worth also noted that it was fun to watch the newcomers in the draw compete against the veterans.
Even the weather was no match for the top seeds, Jade Curtis and two-time APTA National Champion Viktoria Stoklasova, who cruised through the draw, losing only nine games in three matches. They defeated the second seeded team of Kelly Brown-Cobbs and Sue Tarzian in the finals.
The consolation draws made up for any drama lacking in the main draw. At the end of a very long day on the courts, Jolene Sutter and Ali Von Kennel took a highly competitive, three-set win over Carrie Cochrane and Morgan Melnikoff in the Consolation. Same story in the Consolation Reprieve, as Tamara Knobloch and Shana Roberts barely pulled out a win over Abigail Burke and Patricia Van Tassel-Cromie.
Thank you to Tournament Director Courtia Worth, who always runs a fantastic tournament.
