The pre-Thanksgiving weather cooperated for the DC Open Women's PCQ, November 22nd, in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Twenty-four teams competed at the Congressional and Columbia Country Clubs. In the semifinals, top seeds Leila Safford and Ali Tross held off Stella Ip and Annie Matthews, 7-5, 6-4.
In the other semi, Diane Straus-Tucker and Erin Nicholson Ortiz took down the second seeds, Sally Allen and Sue Pijawka, 6-3, 6-2. In a tough, long final under the lights, Safford and Tross defeated Straus-Tucker and Ortiz, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, to capture the trophy and some home-baked pies!
We would like to thank host clubs Congressional and Columbia for lending their facilities, courts and fantastic staff. We also extend our deep appreciation to our volunteers, hut managers, and event planners for making this awesome day of paddle possible.
