First off I’d like to thank our sponsor for the 2nd year in a row, Ms. Write Stationery, for donating this year’s tourney favors - the awesome sports watches! If you need any last minute gifts, Christmas Cards or stationery call Sue Dougherty @ 215. 498.6704 or www.mswritestationery.com and she will help you out! She too is an avid paddle enthusiast and happens to be my sister!

Second, an enormous thanks to Ann Sheedy, Exec. Dir. of the APTA, and Kat Shupe for monitoring the huts and keeping play moving along! All flights were done significantly earlier this year thanks to your stewardship. Now, does Rob Coster, Region II President, deserve a thank you? Hmmm…..he said he’d pour the wine but he only drank it, he said he’d pass the cheese but only ate it and kept saying he was the clean up crew but left early……the thank you on the day of the event is debatable but what’s not debatable is his effort to generate interest in our regions events throughout the year. Hats off to the three of you!

Third, many thanks to David McNaughton, Drew Sawyer and Wende Shupe for securing and providing the courts and balls at Wellesley Country Club, Weston Golf Club and Braeburn Country Club – the paddle wouldn’t have gone on without you and your clubs support.

Fourth, does someone have connections with mother nature? My goodness we were fortunate to have such a glorious day, I just wonder if our finalist Susan Rudd has made it back to Minnesota yet?

Last but not least, the Boston Open participants. I received an email from Chrissy Johnston from Pittsburgh in August asking for event info. followed by Ruth from Rochester’s email – I thought holy smokes people are coming to the event and there isn’t even an application yet! You all were a wonderful addition to the event and MUST come back next year (come on….you can stay at the Cougarville hotel and maybe next year you’ll actually get invited to the wedding versus crashing?). And, my heartfelt thanks to the Region II participants like Mary Mayotte Ford who promised me last year to play this year if I’d just give her a darn glass of wine – she kept her promise. It’s all about the people.

Congratulations to our perennial finalists - Jessie Glidden and Amy Stiga who defeated Wendy Yang in Susan Rudd in an incredible three set final that had everyone in the hut on their feet! Fun fun!

Congrats also to:

Barb Bettigole and Carrie Rabuse who met in the morning and won the quarter reprieve against region II newcomers Pam Holding and Jen Jordan
Sandra Duryea and Laney Makin who won the reprieve against fellow region IIers Asa Nillson and Barb Horne
Courtia Worth and Jill Tryon who won the conso against Braeburns dynamic duo of Nancy Walthall and Sarah Driscoll
Wende Shupe and Kristi Martin (aka…I need a path…) who won the conso reprieve against Jill Rodday and Weezie Lietzau – let’s discuss that Jill or was it Weezie was moving the next day to Baltimore – love the effort.

I promise more sandwiches next year (cripes) and more wine, come back next year and thank you.
