Green Mountain Open Runs into Loads of Weather
November 20, 2018
Quechee, VT
Players were tough as tractors
The Green Mountain tournaments started on Friday, November 2, with a small group of women playing in 100% humidity. Downpours, fog, and miraculously warm temperatures during the finals were the extra player on the court. Kerry Alvino and Katie Martin from Plum Island, Massachusetts prevailed over Missy McDougald (Kennebunkport, ME) and Nindy Pike (Mass), 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Alvino poured it on in the third, with Martin blitzing more in the one match then her entire life.
On Saturday, with torrential rain and gale force winds, the men took it in stride. Julian Camacho and Max Gumport repeated as winners, battling it out with Justin Poletti and Mike McGrath, 6-3, 6-4.
For the mixed event on Sunday, the weather found moderation, and the courts could dry out. Taking advantage of good weather, winners Alyce Dwyer and Dan Hansen dispatched wife/husband team Courtney and Sam Adams, 6-2, 6-3
Thanks to Tournament Director David Barlow, volunteers Sugar Generaux and Martha Roiter, and all the others at the Quechee Club and Norwich Paddle Tennis Club who helped out.
