Region III’s second PCQ of the season was held on Friday, November 30, at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA. The sixteen teams in the draw comprised a level playing field, leading to a lot of good paddle and close matches. After battling it out in competition, the players warmly enjoyed each other’s company off the court.
“Frosty the Snowman” was the tournament theme, including an amazing magician on site boggling the minds of players between matches while they ate chicken and burgers hot off the grill and completed their entries in the Frosty trivia contest. White pine garland lined the patio, and players were greeted by Frosty as they entered the hut filled with beautiful red poinsettias.
Prizes were awarded to the Main Draw winners and finalists, Quarterfinal Reprieve winners, and Consolation winners, all who left with resin Frosty the Snowman tree ornaments and Sherpa fleece snowflake blankets. All players received a soft and cozy snowflake hoodie favor. The tournament director’s mom’s homemade toffee was there as anticipated by all the regulars.
Congrats to the new first time winners, Stephanie White and Ashlee Vosters. They defeated the defending champs, Kristin Mumford and Lisa Murray, in a hard-fought semifinal, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, and then carried the final in two sets, 6-4, 6-2, over Kym Kochis and Karin Kochis.
