Cincinnati, OH
The next best thing to being there? Watching Live Streaming of the Midwesterns and following the impressive commentary from Kasey Vens, Nancy Budde, Michael Montalbano, Drew Broderick, Peter Berka, and Mark Fischl.
The semis and finals were broadcast live, with a mix of classic and contemporary play on display. Second seeds Marco Grangeiro and Steve DeRose, a new pairing, took down fifth seeds Scott Estes, Jr., and Mike Cochrane, 6-3, 6-1. Estes and Cochrane went for big shots, uncharacteristically making errors off returns and first volleys, while Grangeiro’s backhand was infallible and DeRose showed his usual quickness and great hands. (Finalists pictured below.)
In the Men’s 90+, Jon Bakker and Flip Goodspeed outlasted Juan Arraya and Mark Fischl, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3. Second-seed locals Ken Palmer and Ron Visscher won the Men’s 110+ by taking down first seeds and Senior National Champions Jim Bishop and Mike Hanna in a barn burner, 7-6, 7-5.
