The 16th Annual Paddle Rally kicked off the 2012/13 Philadelphia-area ladies season on Oct 15th. Over 170 players supported the event and raised $11,500 that was donated to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Under the chairmanship of Linda Dutton, the advisory board of Faith Bascome, Leila Safford, Laurie O'Leary, and a committee of representatives from 15 local MAPTA clubs, the Paddle Rally continues to be one of the highlights of the paddle season in Philadelphia.
This year Laura Martin, a paddle enthusiast, a past Region III President's Cup player, and cancer survivor, spoke to the crowd before everyone played fun and competitive paddle. Her fight to beat cancer and passion for life created a wonderful “contagious enthusiasm” that surrounded all those attending.
All the local MAPTA paddle professionals helped with the Paddle Rally in addition to donating a lesson to lucky raffle winners. We also appreciated the wonderful support from our sponsor, Meridian Bank.
Since the inception in 1997, MAPTA has generously supported the Paddle Rally and our total contributions to LBBC have exceeded $160,000!! We are looking forward to continued success in 2013.
