Delmonico and Rabuse take the 2016 Rochester Open Women's Title
October 23, 2016
Rochester, NY
The players in Rochester were lucky to escape the rain that pummeled the southern part of New York State on Saturday, but they had to contend with howling 20 mile an hour winds. Despite the tricky weather, the players who traveled from eight states and Canada enjoyed some great paddle, lunch from a Tuscan wood fired pizza truck, and the legendary hospitality of the Rochester Open crew.
After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, #1 seeds Kerri Delmonico and Carrie Rabuse roared back to take the next 2 sets and the championship from Shaheen Bhanji and Lea Morris, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Delmonico won the title last year with Cindy Prendergast, and with Rabuse in 2012.
On the men’s side, top seeded Scott Falatek and Vlatko Najdek took the title but not without a fight from the #2 seeded team of Mike Stulac and Casey Watt, who battled mightily but came up just short, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Thanks to Fritz and Sandra Odenbach for hosting a tournament where players know they will get a lot of good paddle and even more great socializing!
