Winners Repeat at 65th Short Hills
February 8, 2016
Short Hills, NJ
As Patty Hogan (and someone else equally as famous) said, “The more things change, the more they remain the same.” The champions this year were the same as last year’s. In each final, the top seeds at this year’s Short Hills Invitational both won in three sets, each losing one set in a matter of minutes. But, as true champions do, they were able to right the ship and reclaim their titles.

This was the 65th consecutive tournament at Short Hills. The Friday night festivities kicked off with Bobo Delaney’s induction into the Hall of Fame, with a speech by the renowned Hank Irvine. Over 200 people attended the party, followed by the Dinner of Champions. Every former champion of the tournament was invited, creating a special evening of nostalgia and admiration for the level of platform tennis genius in the club. The champs posed for a picture, below.
The tournament was filled with talent. After the courts were emptied of snow, Saturday was jam-packed with match after match of exciting play. The final pairings on Sunday morning were exact replicas of last year’s match-ups.
Drew Broderick and Jared Palmer defeated Juan Arraya and Max Le Pivert, with an incredible shift of momentum, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1.
On the women’s side, Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova fought successfully to turn back a strong effort by Kerri Delmonico and Lauren Gebbia, winning in three sets.
Congratulations to all the players. A great big thank you to the Short Hills Club Tournament Committee and all the volunteers who make this great event possible.
