The Chapel Hill Tennis Club once again hosted the Tar Heel Men's Tournament. This year's President's Cup Qualifier was larger and deeper than ever before with many teams vying to earn an invitation to the President's Cup for the first time in our young region. Thirty-two players gathered from Pittsburgh, Richmond, Charlottesville, Winston-Salem, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, and Atlanta.
It was an all Pittsburgh final with Tyler Noland and John Nichols defeating Dan Hersh and Albert Veverka. (Finalists pictured at right.) Semi-finalists Rich Green and Greg Schild and Andy Todd and Brian Safford all came from our very own Tar Heel State with the exception of Andy Todd from Virginia. Georgia's Rem Reynolds and Rob Celona won possibly the strongest feed-in back draw ever to be played in the South with past champions Trevor Spracklin and Mike Daniels from DC taking 6th place.
Past years have sometimes been a challenge because of ice or snow. This year the challenge was the UNC vs. UVA basketball game and twice the number of teams from last year. Volunteers shuttled players to and from the UNC courts just outside of the Dean Smith Center because parking was not a possibility. Thanks to everyone for a great tournament.
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists!
