Long Island Wins Tri-State
MARK FISCHL
NOVEMBER 17, 2009
GARDEN CITY, LI
On a warm Sunday in November the home team, Long Island, was able to win the second Tri State Cup at the Cherry Valley Club in Garden City. The Tri State Cup, conceived by Alex Bancila, was played last season in New Canaan, Connecticut. As was the case then the home team walked away with the title. Fielding a strong team lead by #2 in the Country Alex Bancila and Brad Easterbrook as well as #7 John Schmitt and Dan Rothschild Long Island finished with 12 victories. Westchester finished second with nine wins. The #1 squad from Westchester, Mark Parsons and Mike Cochrane finished the day undefeated.
A large crowd enjoyed the warmth, some terrific platform tennis as well as a delicious bar-be-que. A good time was had by all watching the spectacular play of many of the top players. Next year the event will be moving to NJ where the home team will look to make it three in a row for the hosts.
Special thanks to Alex Bancila for hosting the event as well as the entire staff at Cherry Valley CC, also to Tim Mangan for hosting the first two rounds at Nassau Country Club. Finally a great job by captains Ray Crosta, Juan Pablo Martinez Arraya, Mark Parsons and Mike Cochrane organizing their respective teams.
Final Standings
Long Island - 12 points
Westchester - 9 points
Connecticut - 7 points
New Jersey - 2 points
