Bernards Township, NJ
Saturday, March 22nd marked the third annual NJ Men’s Municipal Platform Tennis Invitational Tournament. Open only to municipal (public park) teams in the NJMPTA, there was enthusiastic participation from Maplewood, Bernards, Glen Ridge / Bradford, Florham Park / Colony and Farifield players. Jeff Regan, Chuck Molinary and Bob Kopchains hosted the event at Bernards on an unseasonably warm paddle day and supplied ample food and adult beverages.
It was an exciting three set final with Hans Tang and Charlie White from Bernards defeating Pablo Chamorro and Paul Hartley of Maplewood in the championship match. Bill Haines and Andrew Haines from Maplewood won the Consolation round against Brian Hannigan and Ben Clark from Fairfield. George Foot and Blair Conley from Florham Park/Colony were the Consolation Reprieve winners over Chuck Molinary and Charanpreet Bagga from Bernards. In the Quarter Reprieve round it was Andy Tuck and Sam Selesnick of Glen Ridge/Bradford defeating Bill Boyle and Mike Rao from Bernards.
The tournament was dedicated to the memory of Patrick Tuohy who sadly passed away this past January. Patrick was the lead organizer for this tournament as well as an avid player and captain of the B2 NJMPTA team at Bernards. Donations were collected and sent to the Ridge Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund in Patrick's name. Others wishing to contribute may do so online at: https://sites.google.com/site/ridgeams2/donatetothefund
The organizers also wish to thank the NJMPTA who have generously donated the funds to purchase and install a memorial park bench in Patrick's memory at the Bernards platform tennis courts in Pleasant Valley Park. Also thanks to the NJMPTA for supplying platform balls for the tournament.
