Subject: WPTL 2010-11 Weeks 1-3

WPTLGreetings members of WPTL nation and surrounding suburbs. Here’s one turkey who survived Thanksgiving and all its bacchanalia. Yes…that’s right it …rumor of the death of your intrepid WPTL reporter is premature. Actually I would have gotten this article started earlier but my captain benched me late in the third set of the first match because he said I didn’t understand the offense…or maybe he just said that my play was offensive.

For those of you new to the WPTL it is here that you will receive periodic reports (they used to be weekly but the present life circumstances of this member of the press corps makes them bi-weakly at best). We will not dwell too too much on the actual matches played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings because frankly this is neither the place nor the time to detail these events. We will focus more on the subtleties of the play on the platform and whatever else might be floating around a head that was last in good chemical balance shortly before a Kid Creole and the Coconuts concert at the Warner Theater in 1981.

Could the North Repeat its Mason-Dixon Victory?

SCOTT FALATEK
NOVEMBER 2, 2010
BALTIMORE, MD

2010 Mason-Dixon CupThis Region III, annual intra-regional event created by Mark Holtschneider, pits the top 5 teams from the South (Maryland, DC and N Virginia) against the top 5 teams of the North (Delaware, Philly and Lehigh) as determined by the prior years President’s Cup Qualifying (PCQ) points ranking. The goal is to reinforce playing in Region III PCQ events and to start the new paddle season by bringing 20 Region III competitors/friends together.

So, true to form, Region III once again kicked off its season with the 8th Annual Mason-Dixon Cup on Saturday, October 30th. Both the North, led by Captain Scott Falatek, and the South, led by Captain Mark Holtschneider, met at L’Hirondelle Country Club in Baltimore for a great day of competition and camaraderie. The North, after last years’ victory, held a 4-3 edge overall, but with the emergence of some new highly talented players, the South and Captain Mark were confident in their ability to even up the score.

Wilmington Kicks off a New Season of APTA Clinics

TIM McAVOY
SEPTEMBER 20, 2010
WILMINGTON, DE

2010-Wilmington-Exhibition-415We had a fantastic clinic at Wilmington on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Over 50 people came out to play and another 25 came to watch. Wilson received tremendous recognition not only with their banner, but also with the raffles: two sleeves of balls, a racket and a pair of tennis sneakers. It was also a special evening as the Wilmington Country Club kicked off the paddle season with a brand new paddle hut and 4 new courts. More
