Flushing, NY
The USPTA presented a new award—New England Platform Tennis Professional of the Year Award for 2017—at this year’s awards ceremony, held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on May 5. Dan McCormick, a paddle instructor in New England for over 20 years, earned this impressive distinction.
The USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) recently enveloped the PPTA, the Professional Platform Tennis Association, the teaching arm of paddle tennis that works on evaluation and certification for the sport’s instructors.
McCormick is the racquets professional at the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts, where he has worked since 2010. He is also the head women's tennis coach at Salem State University. He previously was a racquets professional at the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton, MA, for 10 years, and has held countless clinics and lessons at many clubs in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, where there are a shortage of certified pros. McCormick also travels to play tournaments both nationally and regionally, and is a true ambassador of the sport.
New England USPTA President Mike Mercier presented the award and had the following to say regarding McCormick and his commitment to platform tennis as well as all racquet sports.
Dan is well regarded in the tennis and platform tennis industry. He is an active member of the USPTA and is a proponent of continuing education for professionals. He is top shelf and goes out of his way to help people in the platform tennis community. He is a great promoter of the game, as well as tennis and squash. This award is wonderful opportunity to recognize Dan McCormick for his work in and promotion of the game of platform tennis.”
McCormick received the award on courtside at the site of the US Open. The APTA would like to add their congratulations to Dan for this great honor.
