Frank Willard
December 11, 2014
Detroit, MI
With a record number of teams participating in the tournament and more expected next year, the DIT PCQ was played this past Saturday, December 6th. The weather was spectacular and the finals were hosted at Oakland Hills Country Club. Participants came from Toledo, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois, Grand Rapids, Michigan as well as the greater Detroit area. Many spectators enjoyed watching a very high level of play by the finalists. The winners were Peter Berka and Marek Czerwinski over Kasey Vens and Adam Shaeffer, 6-3, 6-2, in a battle of the top two seeds.
This year, for the first time, the Detroit tournament hosted a men’s 90s event. Participation was excellent. Brian LaPorte and Greg Van Hoven defeated Frank Willard and Rob LeBuhn in the finals, 7-6, 7-5.
A big thank you to co-chair Mike Shields and all the volunteers associated with the tournament. Paddle is on the rise in the D and we wish to thank the Birmingham Athletic Club, Orchard Lake Country Club, and host Oakland Hills Country Club for their participation in the event. See everyone next year….
