Started in 2016, the Globall Giving Paddle with a Purpose is held on the first Saturday in March. It’s a great event full of fun, competition, and camaraderie. Two clubs, the Town Club and The Cedar Club compete in the event, where each club has a captain and fields a team of 30 players. Teams are arranged into five flights of three teams from each club. Each team plays three matches against like-skilled players from the opposing club. From the top players in Flight 1 to the newer players in Flight 5, every match is competitive, and teammates root hard for their clubhouse. All matches count and the club that wins the most matches wins the Globall trophy to house in their paddle hut and, of course, bragging rights for the next year, too. 2018 results are in. The Town Club won (again) by a match score of 24-21. After the competition died down, the black lights come out, adding to the glow of doing good while playing paddle.
Money raised goes to the charity GloBall Giving (globallgiving.org). They provide sports equipment to underprivileged children around the world, with a mission of giving every child a chance to play. This year, we added a ticketed raffle to raise additional money. We had 10 items ranging from Bucks floor seats and Brewers tickets to autographed sports items and gift baskets, raising a total of $10,920.
Thanks to all the players, volunteers, and staff who make this event extra special.
