APTA Viking Clinics Go to Colorado
October 17, 2016
Denver, CO
The APTA Viking Clinic and Exhibitions group took on the Rocky Mountains! A huge thanks to Guga Goncalves, Mark Innes, Alex Dove, and Zen Mottershead for putting on two wonderful days of clinics and exhibition matches in Denver and Boulder on October 8 and 9. Their professionalism and quality of instruction was thoroughly appreciated by the 100 players who participated. Everyone loved the overview and break-down of the shots, strategy, and court positioning. Players kept saying how great it was to rotate and spend 20 minutes with all four of the instructors. The pros did a fantastic jobs of altering the lesson plan—for groups of beginners, intermediate, and advanced players.
On Saturday the event was held at Arapahoe Tennis Club in Denver. It was a typical autumn day in Colorado with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s. After 4.5 hours of clinics, the players and pros enjoyed a catered dinner and drinks before starting the exhibition match. Goncalves and Innes played an exciting and entertaining eight game pro-set against the Coloradan team of Cary Hodges and Tim Kofol. On Sunday, the pros traveled to Boulder, holding clinics at the North Boulder Rec Center and Meadows Swim & Tennis Club—each facility with two courts. The event finished mid-afternoon, which allowed the pros to explore and enjoy a few hours in Boulder.
The paddle community in Colorado would like thank the APTA and Viking for the wonderful program they've created. As the Colorado platform tennis market continues to grow, this event was a great kick-off to the season and confirmed the love people in this area have for the sport. Thanks to the pros for providing nine hours of quality instruction and also the extra time they spent socializing and playing in the exhibition matches. Thanks to Arapahoe Tennis Club and Meadows Swim & Tennis Club for opening up their facilities for a public and free event.
Special thanks to Viking for their continued support of this program.
