Randy Lofgren and Robert Phillips Take Tar Heel PCQ

The 2015 Tar Heel Men's played January 17th with picture perfect weather for a change. The previous three years were pretty rough with heavy rain, snow, and even a tornado. The Chapel Hill Tennis Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, hosted with matches also played on University of North Carolina's ground-level courts. Both facilities were assisted by the APTA Grow the Game initiative.

Region VII's level of play continues to improve with Charlotte, North Carolina's Randy Lofgren winning all four Southern PCQ's thus far. Lofgren partnered with Robert Phillips to defeat former APTA National champ Mike Cochrane and Andy Ward in a very entertaining match with quite a display of exceptional skills from Mike and Randy.

The most exciting match of the day was the semifinal where Cochrane and Ward barely got by Winston-Salem's Mike Auger and Adam Thomson, winning 8-6 in the third set tie-break. Richmond's Blake Gayle and Peyton Lawson defeated Winston-Salem's Alex Whaling and John Morris in the feed-in bracket to take 5th place.
