Eichleay-Joyce, Hoppe-Montgomery Capture NorCal PCQ Titles

The Nor Cal PCQ Championships took place this past weekend under crystal clear blue skies and crisp cool air. In other words, perfect west coast paddle weather! 48 participants joined the fray at the beautiful Lagunitas Country Club, home to the APTA's western-most Region VI PCQ tournament, with the woman playing on Friday and the men on Saturday.

The Woman's PCQ was won by the LCC's Tori Eichleay and Colorado's Claire Joyce. Tori and Claire were a formidable team, losing only 3 games in 3 matches! The other finalists were the Mother/Daughter team of Patty Griffith and Chizzie Brown.

The Men's PCQ was won for the second year in a row by Huntley Montgomery and Nick Hoppe. Huntley and Nick pulled off an exciting 6-3, 6-4 win in the finals against the very strong team of Bobby Devens and Tom Mayes. Huntly plays on another planet, and Nick proved yet again that it never gets old to win tournaments against people half your age.

As always at the LCC, a great time was had by all participants. Special thanks to Tom Mayes for organizing the Men's tourney and to Cam Lanphier for keeping track of the scores, the court schedule, the men and all the other logistics on Saturday.
