It can only be called a stupendous tournament when you are fighting for a seat in the frigid nighttime air to watch an epic quarter final match. The field was deep and twisted. Some old-time partners got back together; some new pairs created excitement. Goodspeed without Mansager—what?

Showing their usual unflappable style, Drew Broderick and Chris Gambino worked steadily through the draw. In the finals, they met up with former Charities champions Steve DeRose and Jon Lubow, but were able to reclaim their 2011 title, by a score of 6-3, 7-5.

There was at least one major upset—National Champions Johan du Randt and Mark Parsons went down fighting in a three-setter against the reunited team of Mike Cochrane and Scott Estes.

The big question in the men’s locker room—will Lennart Jonason continue to play the sport he has so quickly mastered? It is bittersweet news that he leaves for a full time job in Florida.

In the Men’s 90+, 32 teams battled for first. The top two seeds made it to the finals, where Doug Jones and Eric Miller captured the title over James Goldman and Charlie Usher.

The APTA is thrilled to report that the Live Scoring and Live Streaming were a big success. Scoring had triple the amount of traffic from last year, due in large part to people watching live streaming of great matches on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Congratulations to John Noble and his committee for running another amazing Chicago Charities!
