On Thursday, September 18, the North Shore Women’s Platform Tennis League (NSWPTL) hosted its 18th annual Court the Cure fundraiser. Nearly 230 paddle players partook in a day of exciting matches at clubs across the North Shore including Birchwood Club in Highland Park, Evanston Country Club in Skokie, Lake Forest Club in Lake Forest, Michigan Shores in Wilmette, Midtown Bannockburn Club in Bannockburn, Prairie Club Park District in Glenview, Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, and Tennaqua in Deerfield. This year, the generous support of the Court the Cure players and sponsors raised more than $17,000 for leading-edge breast cancer research at NorthShore University HealthSystem.

“Court the Cure is great way to start the paddle season while raising funds and awareness for an extremely important women’s cause that is near and dear to our hearts,” stated Court the Cure co-chair Karen Ury. “Since the events inception 18 years ago, we have been able to raise over $150,000 for leading-edge breast cancer research at NorthShore – directly impacting the lives of women in our community.”

All proceeds from Court the Cure will support breast cancer research initiatives led by Katharine Yao, MD, Director of the Breast Surgical Program at NorthShore. Her team’s research examines DNA sequences of second breast tumors in an effort to understand why patients have relapses. This dynamic exploration at NorthShore will help to ensure early detection and more effective treatments for many generations to come.

Congratulations to all organizers, players, volunteers, and contributors who make this day memorable and meaningful.
