Liz Cruz and Gabi Niculescu Tops at February Thaw Out

A strong 16-team draw met at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Long Island over the weekend. There were tight matches from the first round on. Jessica Guyaux and Jaclyn Williamson, a new team this season, had a solid three-setter quarterfinal against another new team this season, Amy Shay and Jolene Sutter. Guyaux/Williamson moved on to the semis, losing to perennial top placers, Florentina Hanisch and Ana Marija Zubori,6-4, 6-4. The other semifinal highlighted four top teaching pros, Roxy Enica and Martina Ondrejkova against Liz Cruz and Gabi Niculescu. Cruz/Niculescu, 2018 and 2019 National Champions, moved on to the final at 7-6, 6-3. They kept their good form going, winning against Hanisch/Zubori, 6-1, 6-4.
