Bob Donahue and Thomas Errath Best at Ferocious 45s

The Ferocious 45s is part of a series of Greater Boston Platform Tennis League events, tiered for players of varying ability levels. Participants had to enter with a PTI of 45 or higher. Multiple players had their PTI drop below 45 by match-day…a reminder of the importance of registering early.

DATA

38 of the most ferocious paddle players from the Boston area clashed on Saturday, February 1st.
37 matches were contested throughout the
9 hours of continuous play.
12 of the matches went to a deciding 3rd set.
Many miles were traveled along the paddle trail from WCC to DCPC to TCC, and back again.
1 keg of Fiddlehead was very rewarding after all that effort

OVERVIEW

All of the quarterfinal matches were hotly contested. Bob Donahue and Thomas Errath outlasted Scott Griebel and Taylor Duffy, 7-6, 7-6. Ned Twining and Kenny Sydness bested Todd Williamson and Jake Homiller, also by a score of 7-6, 7-6. Nick Halaby and Christopher Del Col defeated Dave Dailey and David Rochon, 6-3, 7-5. John Byers and John Thorndike edged out Alice Miller and Peter Martin 6-4, 7-6. Byers/Thorndike got a big confidence boost from that win and rolled through their semifinal by a score of 6-2, 6-1. The other semifinal was a different story. After losing an hour-long first set, Donahue/Errath outlasted Twining/Sydness by a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-3. The final was a display of patience and confidence between two very evenly matched teams. In the end, Donahue/Errath emerged victorious, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Dedham Country and Polo Club, The Country Club, and Wellesley Country Club hosted the event. Many thanks to the members and staff members of those clubs for making their facilities available.
