February 5, 2018
Dedham, MA

2018 Fericious Forties WinnersThe inaugural Ferocious 40’s Men’s C tournament was held at Dedham Country and Polo Club on Saturday, February 4th. This event marked the kick-off of a new series of paddle tournaments tiered for different ability levels of players in the Boston area. To qualify, entrants had to have a player rating no lower than 42 and a team average no lower than 46 at the time they registered.

Eighteen teams competed, playing at least three matches and as many as five. There were leg cramps, long battles, and a few beers consumed. . . all the hallmarks of a great day of paddle. Players bounced between Dedham Country and Polo Club, Wellesley Country Club, and The Country Club in Brookline. Many thanks to the members and staff of those clubs for making their facilities available for this tournament.

In the first semifinal, the #1 seeded team of Chris Jeffrey and Steve Rex took on the #5 seeds Robert Donahue and Evan Conlon. Jeffrey and Rex proved they could handle the pressure of tie-breakers in each set, prevailing at 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (8-6). In the second semifinal, the #2 seeded team of Lou Geremia and Tim Fortune needed three sets to overcome a strong effort by Andrew Sullivan and Rich Forte, at 6-2, 6-7 (7-3), 6-4. In the finals, Geremia and Fortune drove the ball relentlessly and fought their way to a 6-4, 6-3 victory and the title.
