Green Mountain Women’s, Men’s, and Mixed Open Starts off November

The annual Green Mountain Open paddle tournament was held on November 1, 2, and 3 at the Norwich Racquet Club in Norwich, VT along with the Quechee Club in Quechee, VT. Three tournaments were held:

Held on Friday, a competitively matched group of six teams vied for syrup and pride that they all handled the gale force winds rather easily. Winners Wendy Watson and Michelle Cannon, both Vermonters, defeated Asa Nilsson and Barb Horne, of Massachusetts, 6-3, 6-3.

A full 16-team draw featured many of the usual suspects on Saturday. Mike McGrath and Andrew Hocker defeated Ed Hughes and Justin Poletti 6-0, 6-2. All four teams are from the Philadelphia area. The weather was perfect to entice a crowd of spectators to enjoy supper while watching the finals. (pictured with Mike on left)

Sunday welcomed eight mixed doubles teams. Abigail Burke and Paul Wishnoff of New Jersey defeated Courtney Adams and Sam Adams from Massachusetts, 0-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Thank you to Tournament Director David Barlow, volunteer Sugar Generaux and others, and the Quechee Club staff for opening their facilities to the players.
