2021 Hinsdale Challenge Women's NRT Final Results (doc)(pdf)

One of the biggest challenges at the Hinsdale Challenge Grand Prix was the frigid temperature. The 24 teams competing were playing in the coldest conditions at a Grand Prix this season. Top seeds Heather Prop and Wendy Shpiz handled it well and had great success on their way to the final.

QUARTERFINALS/SEMIFINALS

The top four seeds all made it into the quarterfinals, with Spencer Caravaggio and Sandy Cvetkovic (3) battling in a three-setter against Svetlana Schroeder and Shawna Zsinko to progress on to the semifinals. Alison Morgan and Alice Tunaru (2) weren’t able to hold off the strong team of Hallie Bodman and Marina Ohlmuller, who won 6-1, 6-2. Fourth seeds Chris Maglocci and Denise Murphy defeated Sean Barth and Sydney Berens, 6-2, 6-2.

The semifinals were not dramatic, with the higher seeds prevailing. Prop/Shpiz won versus Maglocci/Murphy, 6-2, 6-2, and Caravaggio/Cvetkovic won against Bodman/Ohlmuller 6-2, 6-1.

FINALS

Finally, a tight match. In the arctic weather. Prop/Shpiz held off a successful Caravaggio/Cvetkovic challenge, 7-6, 7-5, for their repeat title at the Hinsdale Challenge (first as a Grand Prix).

Thank you very much to Tournament Director Mary Doten, host Hinsdale Park District (Katherine Legge Park), Chicago Highlands Country Club, the volunteers, and all the participants.
