Kristin Mumford/Lisa Murray Tops at 4th of July in December in Lehigh Valley Women’s PCQ

Region III’s third PCQ of the season was held on Friday December 1st at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.  Sixteen teams from PA, NJ, DE, and VA competed and celebrated the 4th of July in December (a twist on the “Christmas in July” theme).  Patriotic bunting lined the paddle patio where the American flag flew in the breeze.  Many players were festively decked out in their red, white, and blue and USA gear.  Conditions were ideal for a paddle picnic / bbq with temps in the high 40s and low 50s, some sun, and light clouds.  Nobody went home hungry after enjoying an abundant menu from deviled eggs to pasta salad to hot burgers and chicken off the grill mid-afternoon.  The repeat regulars enjoyed their fix of the tournament director’s mom’s homemade toffee, tourney-famous candy that is highly credited with growing the popularity of the event over the last several years. 

USA Turkish cotton towels and red / blue Hydroflasks were awarded to the winners and finalists as well as to the quarterfinal reprieve winners and consolation winners, and all players received soft and cozy American flag hoodies.

Thank you to Tom Fitzmaurice, Jen Ronan, Eric Niesen, and Tara Frana at Saucon Valley Country Club for their key support in producing another fun and memorable Lehigh MAPTA tournament.  Most importantly, thank you to the thirty-two women who came to play and gave life to the party!
