McNerney/Phillips Win 2016 Men's Low Country Classic of Charleston
November 28, 2016
Charleston, WV
The 4th Lowcountry Paddle tournament had typical Charleston weather reaching a high of 72 but it cooled down at night for some entertaining and fast platform tennis under the lights and a fire pit. The finals included 3 players from Charlotte and Graham McNerney of Atlanta. Graham and Charleston's only 2x winner of this event Robert Phillips defeated former champion Randy Lofgren and 1st time participant Claes Perrson by a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
These 4 players are fairly new to the game and play at a fast, high level pace. Which was obvious with both teams winning straight set semis final matches over experienced players which included tournament director Jerry Albrikes, Jim Greenho and Charlotte's other team of Eric Miller and Michael Watson.
The tournament was a 1 day event which included 12 teams on 2 ground level platform courts which are the only 2 courts in the state of South Carolina.
