Deming and Short Cruise at MAPTA Men's PTI 40+

January 23, 2023
Wilmington, DE

Dupont Country Club Director of Racquets Jeff Wiedemann writes: 24 teams came to Wilmington, Delaware, to compete in the MAPTA Men’s PTI 40+ tournament this past weekend. The tournament was run by DuPont pros, Jeff Wiedemann and Logan Moore, and played at Greenville Country Club and Vicmead Hunt Club. It was a classic day for paddle—the conditions were a perfect 45 degrees, with no sun or wind. There were some great three-set battles and a few double-digit PTI upsets. The most notable moment of the tournament was when the sixth seed, Burkhart and Roberts, suffered a tournament-ending ankle injury in their first match loss, but then rebounded by winning the hut. Rumor has it that they finished a keg of beer, fifth of Makers Mark, and accepted action on every match being played on court two at Greenville with anyone who had a Venmo account.

The top-seeded team of Adam Short and Michael Deming cruised to victory, defeating the unseeded father/son duo, Scott and Matt Scoffone in the finals. Thanks to all who played and thank you to Greenville and Vicmead for their hospitality.

The APTA thanks Tournament Directors Jeff Wiedemann and Logan Moore, host Dupont Country Club and the staff, all volunteers, and the players too.
