Scott Freund and Alex Hume Reign at the Mid-Atlantic Men’s
December 8, 2018
Chevy Chase, MD
With perfect platform tennis weather, 32 teams from the Mid-Atlantic region descended on the Washington, DC area for the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Men’s Championships.
Seeds #1, #2, and #4 made it through to the semifinals with relative ease. The unseeded team if Tommy Croker and Kirk Galiani were surprise semifinalists, gaining their berth by defeating Jaleel Khan and Scotty Safford in three sets, after Khan/Safford took out the third seeded team. In the end, only two teams could play for the championship. In a repeat of last year’s final, Scott Freund and Alex Hume successfully defended their title for a three-peat by defeating Guga Goncalves and Trevor Spracklin.
A big thank you to all the participants, the staff at Congressional Country Club for the amazing food and setting up the paddle facility, Joe Mesmer (Director of Tennis at Columbia Country Club) for overseeing the Consolation bracket at Columbia, Chevy Chase for hosting back draw matches, and Nate Engler as tournament director. We hope to see everyone back here next year!
