2018 NJ State Men's 60+The storm that blew through the entire East Coast, left a damaged court at Echo Lake Country Club, but the tournament moved forward as usual. As those of you who watched the later rounds know, we had some upsets and some hard-fought matches. In the end, Robert Krauss and Ivan Harlow prevailed over Rick Sahlman and Bruce Humphreys in a final that featured contrasting styles, but plenty of epic points.

Sahlman and Humphreys used their powerful offense to defeat two of the top four seeds to reach the final. Krauss, new to the tournament, teamed up with many-time champion Ivan Harlow, and their consistent defense, along with opportunistic offense, carried the day in the championship match. Krauss and Harlow will have their names etched in the trophy for posterity.

There were several new teams that played deep into the tournament, and some featured younger players who will be sure to contend in 2019 and beyond. I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, as losing a court to the storm two days before the tournament would have caused havoc with a less flexible group. The 10 game pro sets in the back draws kept things moving along, despite being nobody’s favorite format. It was a great day for all the master players in attendance.
