Dionne Bothner and Steve Pike Battle to Victory at New York State Mixed

We had a record amount of teams, at 32, for the 2013 New York State Mixed Championships held in Rochester, New York on January 5th. The weather was perfect with clouds and 30 degree temps. Great, great fun was had by all along with the extremely competitive matches all day long. Players from Long Island, Westchester, Buffalo, as well as Rochester rounded out the field.

All the seeds progressed as planned, with the #2 seeded team of Dionne Bothner and Steve Pike defeating #1 seeds, Sandra and Fritz Odenbach, in the finals, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1. Both semifinals were fantastic matches with the Odenbachs’ defeating Kelly Brown and Huy Nguyen in a hard-fought three-set battle, while Bothner and Pike had an amazing three-set match against Lori Considine and Miguel Cobbs, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. Considine and Cobbs led 4-1 in the last set tiebreaker, only to get edged out 7-5.

Much fun was had at the Shadow Lake Bar afterwards…so much fun that around 25 players went out and invaded Taylor’s Nightclub to show off their moves on the dance floor.

This was truly a New York State Mixed Tournament full of fun New York State players. Hopefully this will continue to grow bigger and bigger each year.
