Whitney Berns and Heather Hawes Tops at Brookline Resolution Women’s PTI 40+

Tournament Director Brian Smith writes: “Brookline Paddle Club's New Year Resolution Women's PTI 40+ tournament on Saturday, January 8, was a great success. Teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine faced off on a wonderfully frigid day and battled for eight hours. Both semifinals were long, fantastic matches, but the final was phenomenal. Having lost the first set, Karen McNamara/Aileen Eleey Smith were then down 1-4 in the second before battling back to take that set 7-6 (7-4). The third set was a back-and-forth affair with Whitney Berns/Heather Hawes eventually taking the last set 7-6 (7-4) for the hard-fought victory. Congratulations Whit and Heather! Thank you to all the participants, many of whom returned to BPC for the final, for great paddle and sportsmanship.”

The APTA thanks Tournament Director Brian Smith, host club Brookline Paddle Club, The Country Club, Weston Golf Country Club, and Needham Paddle Tennis Club, all the volunteers, and to the 16 teams who competed well.
