Lindsey Herchel and Shana Roberts Storm the Nor’Eastern B

The women who usually attend this small, picturesque event were a little underwhelmed with the weather this year. Sunny skies, mild temperatures; it was almost too easy. The newly renovated Eastern Yacht Club and the backdrop of buoys bobbing in the harbor also made it hard to focus on the game. The highlight had to be a visit from the Jersey Girls, who brought a touch of home with pony Miller beers and got the crowd lit up just after lunch.

Lindsey Herchel, attending her last B tournament as she qualified for the 2016 Region II President’s Cup team, and Shana Roberts stayed dialed in the entire tournament, winning the final over fellow Brookliners Erica Curtis and Deb Pruitt, 6-0, 6-2. Curtis and Pruitt had put up epic three-setters in their earlier matches and, well, they were just tired.

Sharron “Tiny Hands” Eastman and Missy McDougald finally left Kennebunkport and it was worth the trip. In the Reprieve, they beat Alyce Dwyer and Nindy Pike in a match much closer than the score, 6-3, 6-2.

Katie Martin and the most enthusiastic new player to come around in a while, Mel Miller, fended off youngsters Aleca Hughes and Anna Asphar in the Consolation draw.

The Last Chance welcomed Michelle Faulds and Abby Crocker to the podium, outlasting chicken hat-wearing Amy Leveroni and Kimberly Fillenworth, 6-2, 6-2.

Tournament Director Dan McCormick was his usual relaxed self, happy to see a few other men show up and drink a beer in the sunshine. Great big thanks, per usual, to lunch hostess extraordinaire Kristin Goedkoop. We all love our towels!
