Katie Adams and Tierman Cavanna Rule in Rhode Island

The scene was mellow and peaceful. The weather couldn’t have been more layered. The morning was rainy and foggy, giving way to clouds and heavy humidity. Straight hair was hard to find. Finally, the sun came out, highlighting the brilliant colors of fall on a summer-like day.  The 14 teams also couldn’t have been more layered with a mix of PCQ and B level players. As the later rounds started shaking out, the points got longer, the shots more intricate. The second-seeded team of Katie Adams and Tierman Cavanna rolled through the draw to beat out first seeds Cecilia Bowers and Alex Hughes in the final, 6-3, 6-4.

The reprieve final was another long match that was great to watch. Steady hands and strong decision-making helped Carolyn McCoy and Paula Fazli beat out Barb Coster and Betsy Bergstrom. APTA President Rob Coster was on site to watch his wife and work the crowd.

The Shelter Harbor Inn offered a fabulous lunch of mushroom ravioli and chicken salad on greens, with desserts of chocolate mousse or Indian pudding, an East Coast traditional treat that got four stars.
