2018 Oden CoxSixteen teams braved pouring rain in the morning and were rewarded with a beautiful sunny afternoon at the Stonington COMO in Stonington, Connecticut. With four courts and a spacious hut, the COMO has become a great venue for tournaments in this southeast corner of the Connecticut coast. The annual Oden Cox Memorial Tournament, established in memory of Oden Cox, a nationally ranked paddle player, proved true to its purpose in honoring the love of the game. Deni Catullo has carried on her mother’s positive paddle energy well.

In a nail biter of a final, Hilary Meyers and Trish Bloom from Longmeadow defeated Holly Stowe and Nancy Nunes, 6-4, 7-6.

Players traveled from Rhode Island, New York, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, all good signs of the growing paddle enthusiasm in this region. Tournament Directors Leslie Haskins (recently APTA’s Volunteer of the Month) and Ann Harvey put together a great event. Thanks also to Beth-Ann Stewart and the Stonington Community Center for providing and promoting paddle tennis in our region.
