2021 Philadelphia Open Men's Grand Prix Final Results (doc), (pdf)
Juan Arraya and Mark Parsons won the Philadelphia Open Grand Prix, played over the weekend at Manufacturers’ Golf and Country Club. The last East Coast Grand Prix men’s event of the season showcased 15 of the top 20 players and other strong talent on a cold, sunny day.
The live streamed first round match of Drew Broderick and Jared Palmer against Tyler Fraser and Adam Morgan set the tone for the high-tempo contests of the day. Palmer was back on the court for the first time in 10 months but looked as impressive as ever and Broderick made few errors as usual. However, Tyler/Morgan dialed it in, taking advantage of any holes on the court they could find and squeaking out the win at 7-5, 7-6, and moved on to the quarters.
QUARTERFINALS
A last-minute withdrawal of second seed John Hughes/Marc Powers changed the draw a bit, but the quarterfinal rounds were still pure quality. Johan du Randt and Stephen Mitchell ousted Martin Bostrom/Louis Volclair, 6-1, 6-3. Fraser/Morgan versus Sven Burus/Mikk Irdoja was a tough match to predict, but Fraser created chaos and Morgan followed up, leading them to a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Arraya/Parsons took on the always tough Scott Kahler/Filip Rams, winning 6-2, 6-3, and Max LePivert and Anton Protsenko handled Mike Cochrane/Dan Hansen, 6-3, 6-1.
SEMIFINALS
Fraser/Morgan had a fighting chance in the first set against du Randt/Mitchell, but couldn’t maintain their roll, losing 7-6, 6-2. LePivert/Protsenko are seriously talented, but Arraya/Parsons used spin and smart shot selection to take the match at 6-2, 6-4.
FINALS
In the last dust-up of Arraya/Parsons versus du Randt/Mitchell at the Western New England Grand Prix, du Randt/Mitchell pulled a Houdini and escaped with a win. In this final, the first set went to Arraya/Parsons in a tie-breaker, and they rode that wave of confidence into the second set win of 6-4, for the Philadelphia Open title for the second year in a row.
The APTA would like to thank Tournament Director Scott Falatek, Tour Director Jackie Cameron, host club Manufacturers’ Golf and Country Club, all the volunteers, and the players for competing well.
