Tiny Rhode Island Raises a Big Mixed Tournament

The beautiful Shelter Harbor Inn was quite a backdrop for the RI Open Mixed Tournament.  Good thing the players didn’t get too drawn into the peaceful setting and came ready for fast-paced action.

An extremely exciting and entertaining final match pitted Judy and Jeff Takach against the mother and son team of Carrie Rabuse and Michael Montalbano. Ultimately Rabuse/Montalbano prevailed by the score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-1.

For 3rd place, husband and wife team Carrie and Craig Waddington won a hard fought match against another mother and son team of Deane and David Tucker, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.

The consolation draw was won by Kim Hyde and Bob Winchester, 6-3, 6-2, over Nuffy Murphy and tournament chair Jim Dey.

We can’t wait until spring for the Shoreline Classic Men’s and Mixed Tournaments on March 31 and April 1, 2012, respectively.
