Rams/Watt and Kladstrup/Leonard Top The Leaderboards at Rochester Open

Bracing for the rain promised by the forecast, the sun instead proved a factor in early morning play at the Rochester Open, hosted for the fortieth year by the Shadow Lake Golf Club. Tough early morning conditions aside, the players and fans enjoyed a day of great paddle.

The tournament, always popular among the players, included teams from New Jersey, Connecticut, Cleveland, Toronto, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Rochester. In the women’s draw, the unseeded locals, Rita Kladstrup and Candice Leonard, tore through the draw, beating the first, third, and, in the finals, the second seeds, Vicki Brown and Janet Mazzola, to take the title. In the men’s bracket, two unseeded teams reached the semifinals in the top half of the draw, with Eric Fey/Mark Ruppert beating Cary Greenberg and Ilya Levin for a place in the finals. The bottom half held true to form, as top-seeded Philip Rams and Casey Watt beat the third seeds, Andrew Chan and Miguel Cobbs, to reach the finals, where they ended the run of Fey/Ruppert.

Once again, the pizza truck was a huge hit among the fans who gathered to watch the semis and finals! Thank you to tournament Fritz Odenbach for running another terrific tournament.
