Oliva Arruda and Jerry Albrikes Super at Shoreline Classic Mixed

April 13, 2021
Stonington, CT

While the Nationals semifinals and finals were taking place on Sunday three hours away, Stonington COMO was hosting the Shoreline Classic Mixed, one of the last tournaments of the season. Jerry Albrikes competed in both and won one, with his stepdaughter Olivia Arruda. On Saturday, Albrikes teamed up with Adam Mirsky in New Jersey, winning the Consolation Round of 16 in a three-setter before falling to DJ Geatz and Robert Herrera Asin.

In Stonington, Albrikes (on a few hours of sleep) and Arruda competed against Mardie Corcoran and Pete Miner in the final. Albrikes/Arruda took the first set 6-3, but Corcoran/Miner cut down their errors and won the second set at 6-2. Albrikes turned on his two-handed backhand in the third, with Arruda playing steady, and they brought home the good wine with a 6-4 score in the third.

The APTA would like to thank Tournament Director Leslie Haskins, lunch provider Dunn’s Corner Market, and all the players who competed well.
