2017 Springfield Open See Final Draw

The Springfield Open 2017 is in the books. Thanks to a group of good people, good play and the fantastic weather I think it was a big success. Fun having family members and friends come out to watch and enjoy the festivities. Appreciate the out of towners from Chicago and STL making the effort to come and play. Definitely added a lot to the tournament.

I would be remiss if I didn’t also thank everyone who helped get the new decking finished and the courts ready for play. Special thanks to Don Tracy for sponsoring the event which helped make it the success that it was.

The last team in became the team that finished first. The husband and wife duo from Chicago, Paulo Gonzalez and Kelsey Laird, were just too much to overcome. Their consistent, excellent play all day allowed them to take the title with a 6-3 / 7-5 win over Rob Christopherson and Brian Windisch. Congratulations Paulo and Kelsey!

The Championship Reprieve pitted the two Chicago Teams against each other resulting in Bryan Freel and Noah “The White Rhino” Seidenberg coming out victorious over Terry Babb and Tod Farnan 6-4 / 6-3. I did have to put a call into the Springfield Park District asking them if they would come out and fix all the dents in the courts left by “The White Rhino”. Their response was that they would as long as he didn’t go through the fencing like he has done in the past. The fencing held tight this time.

Thanks to all that played and I am looking forward to an even bigger tournament next year!
