2022 Tar Heel Men's Open Final Results (doc)(pdf)

Tournament Director Rich Green writes: The 2022 Tar Heel Men's Open was played on February 12th at The Chapel Hill Tennis Club on courts obtained with APTA assistance via the first APTA Grow the Game grant back in 2007. After what seemed like a very cold winter with three frigid Saturdays in a row and snow and ice, tournament day was 72 and sunny.

This year's champions, Raj Wadehra and Scott McKessy, did not need much of an excuse to meet in the land of blue for a paddle tournament. This duo from Wilton CT, was split up when Scott moved to Savannah, GA, and they were looking for somewhere between to meet and play a tournament.

Continuing the theme of family paddle, APTA Hall of Famer John Horine came from Maryland to partner with his soon to be son-in-law Matt Collins.

Another interesting set of visiting teams from Philadelphia were two fathers, Josh Barrickman/Scott Megill and their sons Jack Barrickman/Ryan Megill. Jack and Ryan were looking for competitive practice as they ready for the APTA Junior Nationals in a few weeks. They played three very competitive matches—taking the champions to a tie-breaker, holding up the tournament with a super-long first-round win, and almost defeating the tournament director in the third place playoff. We expect Jack and Ryan have a good chance to win a gold medal in a few weeks.
