Sue PijawkaSue Pijawka

Sue started playing platform tennis more than 20 years ago and currently plays at The Martin’s Dam Club in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Growing up playing lacrosse and field hockey, Sue was immediately drawn to paddle by the competition and vigorous exercise, but it was the camaraderie and social aspects of the paddle community that got her hooked! From the beginning she jumped right in, participating in the MAPTA league, local tournaments, PCQs, NRTs, and Nationals. Her closest friends are people she has met playing paddle both close to home and traveling to other regions for tournaments.

Sue has represented Region III on 12 President’s Cup teams, most recently serving as team captain from 2018- 2020. She is a current member of the MAPTA Board of Directors, working with other board members coordinating league play as well as Region III tournaments. In this role she is also helping to educate local players about PTI and how it can be used as a tool for players, team captains, and club pros in the future.

Sue grew up in Devon, PA, graduating from Dickinson College with a degree in political science and math. After a 13-year career in the insurance industry, she switched gears, starting Harmony Gardens, a landscape design, installation, and maintenance business. The seasonal nature of her business is the perfect complement to her paddle activities. Sue previously served on the Board of Directors of The Wellness Community of Philadelphia and lives in Malvern, PA with her husband Pete, a fellow paddle enthusiast, and her black lab Kirby.

Sue is looking forward to joining the APTA Board and using her experience to help grow the game of paddle.
